The welcome snow of last week has encouraged much activity in our gardens. Snow drops and snow crocus are blooming, daffodil and tulip foliage has appeared almost overnight. It is refreshing to see these resilient harbingers of Spring. Chores at this time of year can be done at a somewhat leisurely pace. Winter watering is always important, but could be overlooked for a few weeks because of snow. It's still too early to start most of the vegetable seeds, but certainly not too early to shop for seeds and supplies. This is a good time to have a look at trees and shrubs for evidence of storm and wind damage, and prune appropriately.
